More than 125 Rings Stolen from Monastery During Funeral Preparations
The Saint Walburg Monastery in Villa Hills was burglarized.
The Benedictine Sisters, who reside at the monastery, made the announcement on Thursday.
Funeral preparations were underway for Sister Cecilia when it happened.
The nuns said in a Facebook post that a large sum of money was taken, as were all of the rings from the deceased sisters. "Our physical remembrance of each sister were stolen," Sister Aileen Bankemper, Prioress, said in the post.
In total, more than 125 rings were stolen, covering a history of more than 150 years.
The nuns said that the burglar missed one of the rings.
The Benedictine Sisters are asking for help from the public in recovering the rings.
The monastery and its surrounding property are slated to become home to a mixed-use development called Sanctuary Village. Edgewood-based Ashley Commercial is developing the project, which the sisters hope will fund their retirement.
