Zone Change Request for 7 Acres in Edgewood Withdrawn

A possible showdown over a zoning change in Edgewood was avoided last Monday when an application related to the zoning of seven acres on Dudley Road was withdrawn.

The Kenton County Planning Commission had recommended disapproval of the application provided by Scott Appleman, owner of land at 634 Dudley.

But the KCPC is simply a recommending body, and the final say would fall to city council.

Edgewood city councilman Joe Messmer owns land adjacent to Appleman's and said that the planning commission's concerns appeared to be related to a perceived lack of plan for the site.

Some members of council and City Administrator Brian Dehner met with Appleman to discuss the potential development of the site.

On Monday night, Appleman, who attended the city council meeting with engineer Mark Rosenberger of Bayer and Becker, said that he would work his project under the current R-1C residential zoning that already exists.

He hopes to sell lots from the land for residential opportunities, he said.

City attorney Frank Wichmann said that council would not have to act on the zoning change request since it had been withdrawn.

In other news, city council will move to take the compensating rate as it relates to property taxes for the 2018-19 fiscal year. That means a tax of $0.253 per $100 of assessed value is expected to bring in the same amount of revenue as last year.
