6,500 Trees Coming to Banklick Creek Area
6,500 new trees will be planted along Banklick Creek over the next few months.
That is half the amount desired by the Kenton County Conservation District for locations in Morning View, along the Licking River, and in South Covington and Fort Wright along Banklick Creek, by November.
DHL Express is partnering with the district for the Banklick Creek portion.
A kickoff event is planned for Wednesday, September 26, when 60 trees will be planted by employees and volunteers.
The DHL “Plant a Million Trees” initiative, part of its GoGreen and Zero-Emissions by 2050 plan, calls for the company to certify 80 percent of its employees as GoGreen specialists and get them involved in its climate protection activities by 2050. This includes joining partners to plant one million trees globally every year to protect the environment. Last year, the first year of the Plant a Million Trees initiative, DHL planted 1.05 million trees globally.
