Suspects in $26,000 Newport Heist Captured

Two men suspected in the theft of more than $26,000 from an armored truck driver at Newport on the Levee are now behind bars.

James Rachel, 19, was captured in Knox County, Tennessee where he faces charges of reckless driving, evading arrest in a vehicle, and resisting arrest.

Tyron White, 21, is in the Hamilton County Detention Center in Cincinnati where he is being held for the Newport Police Department, awaiting transfer to Campbell County.

Police said last Friday that the two men watched as a Brinks armored truck driver arrived with a bag of cash at an automated teller machine (ATM). The men made off with more than $26,000.

Rachel was arrested Saturday and White was booked on Wednesday, hundreds of miles away from each other.

On Monday, Newport Police said in a statement that the department was still actively investigating the theft, encouraging any witnesses or people who know the suspects to come forward.
