SD1 Safety Manager Honored for Work with National Guard Reserves
A senior safety manager at Sanitation District 1 received the Employer Support of the Guard Reserve (ESGR) program Above and Beyond Award.
Rodney Bell has volunteers as the Northern Kentucky Area 7 director at the Kentucky ESGR for 12 years. The award was presented to Bell by Retired Colonel Phil Miller, Kentucky state chairman of the ESGR.
“It is an honor and a privilege to have represented the outstanding men and women who serve our country and the employers who actively and willingly provide support to their employees currently serving in the Guard or Reserve,” Bell said. “I am truly humbled by this recognition.”
The Above and Beyond Award recognizes employers at the local level who have gone above and beyond the legal requirements of the United Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act by providing their Guard and Reserve employees additional non-mandatory benefits such as differential or full pay to offset lost wages and extended health benefits.
ESGR, a Department of Defense program, was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers, and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee’s military commitment. The program is supported by 3,750 volunteers in 54 committees located across the United States.
