3 Teens Jailed After Chase Through Covington, Officer Injured
Three teenagers are behind bars after a police pursuit that started in Boone County ended in Covington's Licking Riverside neighborhood.
One Covington Police officer was injured in the affair.
Police in Covington were told at around 10:30 p.m. that officers in Boone County were pursuing a vehicle on northbound I-75. That vehicle exited at the 12th St./MLK Blvd. exit in Covington at what police called a high rate of speed and nearly struck a police cruiser.
Covington officers pursued the vehicle through the city until the car's driver and his two passengers fled on foot near East Seventh and Garrard streets.
Guy Brison, 18, the suspected driver, was captured at Sixth and Garrard streets, while Treyton Franklin, 18, a passenger, was caught near the Licking riverbank after being tracked by a K9. Markel Swan, 18, another passenger, jumped in the river while being pursued by a K9, and was then arrested.
During the pursuit of Brison on foot, a Covington Police officer suffered an ankle injury. That officer has been placed off-duty pending a follow-up with his physician, Covington Police told The River City News on Tuesday morning. The officer was not identified.
The suspects' vehicle was found to have been reported stolen in Louisville.
All three suspects are being held in the Kenton County Detention Center and are expected to be arraigned in Kenton District Court on Tuesday morning.
Brison is charged with receiving stolen property, first degree fleeing/evading police in a motor vehicle, first degree fleeing/evading police on foot, and having no operator's license.
