One Dead, Three Injured in Walton Crash
This story has been updated with the identity of the woman killed in the crash.
One driver is dead and two children are injured after a crash in Walton on Wednesday morning.
The Boone County Sheriff's Office said that it happened at around 7:20 a.m. on the 700 block of Richwood Road.
A 2003 Chevrolet flatbed truck was headed eastbound when its right axles went off the side of the road. As its driver, Dustin Carroll, 42, of Union, brought the vehicle back on the roadway, the truck started what the sheriff's office described as "a yaw rotation". The truck crossed the center line and collided with a 2018 Honda Accord that was headed westbound.
The collision was a head-on side-swipe, the sheriff's office said. Then, the flatbed continued to rotate, ending up on the north side of the roadway, causing the bed to disengage from the truck's frame, before colliding with another westbound vehicle, a 2017 Toyota pickup truck driven by Angela Sulcer, 53, of Union.
The driver of the Accord was killed and later identified as Amy Skiba, 45, of Union. Two 12-year old children in the vehicle were identified as Skiba's children. They were injured and transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence.
Sulcer, who was driving the pickup, was not injured.
Carroll, the driver of the flatbed, was also taken to St. Elizabeth.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the collision and requests anyone who might have witnessed it to call 859.334.2175.
