Planet Fitness, Smoothie King to Open at the Banks

Planet Fitness and Smoothie King will open at the Banks on the Cincinnati riverfront this year.

The Banks announced Monday that a 14,531-sq. ft. workout facility would open under the Planet Fitness name on Second Street. The new Smoothie King will open in a 1,530-sq. ft. space next door to the fitness center.

“It was our New Year’s goal to provide the Downtown Cincinnati marketplace with a first-class, 24-hour fitness facility,” said Mike Hamilton, Chief Operating Officer of Planet Fitness Midwest, who owns and operates 31 Planet Fitness locations. “We are thrilled that our Planet Fitness and Smoothie King operations at The Banks put fitness and wellness within reach of the Downtown worker population, area residents, and Banks visitors.”

Planet Fitness at The Banks will be open to members 24 hours a day Monday through Friday and 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on weekends, and offers full workout equipment, free fitness training to all members with certified fitness trainers, circuit training, tanning, massage, and spa-inspired locker rooms.

The immediately adjacent Smoothie King will also be operated by Mario Nocero, VP of Operations for SK Midwest, and will feature blended beverages aimed toward health and wellness.

“We are thrilled to bring these two top-of-the-line operators to The Banks, and continue to expand the activity and engagement offerings throughout the development,” said JR Anderson, Vice President of Jeffrey R. Anderson Real Estate, Inc., who leases and manages The Banks. “Situated atop the Central Riverfront Garage, and at the foot of the Cincinnati Bell Connector streetcar, Planet Fitness and Smoothie King at The Banks offers convenient fitness options for the Downtown worker and resident, and speaks to the reality that The Banks and the adjacent Smale Riverfront Park have long been a destination where people of all ages and interests come to be active.”

Construction on both spaces is expected to begin in the coming days, with anticipated openings in May 2019.
