Flooding Possible as Ohio River Rises, High Winds Coming
The National Weather Service issued a flood warning and flood watch for the Ohio River.
The flood warning goes into effect on Monday evening and will remain until further notice, the weather service said.
The Ohio River reached 50.1 feet on Sunday morning. Flood stage is 52 feet.
The weather service expects the river to rise above flood stage by Monday evening and then continue to rise above moderate flood stage to 56 feet by Tuesday night.
Rain is expected to increase in coverage and intensity on Monday and continue into Tuesday. The weather service said that 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain will bring swollen rivers back to near flood in some areas, with some localized flooding in flood-prone areas possible.
There is also the expectation for wind gusts from 35 to 50 miles per hour on Tuesday. Scattered power outages and minor tree damage are likely, the weather service said.
Temperatures will be mostly mild, but rain is expected each day this week.
