Boys Basketball: Three Northern Kentucky Teams Headed to Sweet 16
Northern Kentucky will send three teams to the storied KHSAA Sweet 16 boys basketball state tournament.
Covington Catholic faced Beechwood for the third time this season, and won for the first time. The Colonels dominated the Tigers throughout Saturday night's 9th Region final at BB&T Arena in Highland Heights.
Covington Catholic (26-7) defeated Beechwood (29-5), 64-48.
In the 10th Region, Campbell County won another trip to the Sweet 16, defeating George Rogers Clark, 61-49. The Camels are now 28-4 on the season.
Walton-Verona won the 8th Region title, 60-51, over Oldham Co. The Bearcats are now 26-6 on the year.
All three Northern Kentucky teams are headed to Rupp Arena in Lexington for the state tournament, which starts on Wednesday.
Walton-Verona will play in the tournament opener in a first-round game against Knox Central (29-4), champions of the 13th Region. Tip-off is at noon.
Campbell County also plays on Wednesday, in a clash against 5th Region champs John Hardin (34-0). Tip-off is at 6:30 p.m. The winners of those two games will play each other in the quarterfinals on Friday, March 8.
Covington Catholic is on the other side of the bracket and will play Scott County (32-3), champions of the 11th Region, at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.
