Thomas More Women Move On in NCAA DIII Tournament
The top-ranked Thomas More Saints easily moved on in the NCAA Division III women's basketball tournament.
The Saints downed St. Vincent, 79-54, in the opening round of the tournament, hosted by Thomas More in Crestview Hills.
TMU is now 28-0 on the season and will face #5 Trine in the second round at the Connor Convocation Center at 6:30 p.m.
Trine (23-5) kept the game close in the first half, and Thomas More headed to the locker room at the break, leading by just three, 27-24.
Early in the third quarter, the game was knotted up at 35, but the Saints closed the period on a 17-6 run to lead by eleven heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, it was all Saints.
Thomas More shot 52.5 percent from the field for the game, and were led by senior Shelby Rupp, who had 18 points and 9 rebounds along with 3 blocks, 3 steals, and 2 assists. Junior Emily Schultz scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Junior Madison Temple added 12 points and 9 rebounds, along with 3 blocks, 3 steals, and 2 assists.
Gates at Thomas More open at 5 p.m. for Saturday's game. Tickets will be available then.
The winner of the Thomas More-Trine game will advance to the quarterfinals of the national tournament and face the winner of Transylvania-Oglethorpe.
