Avenue Pharmacy Finds New Home in Dayton

Avenue Pharmacy, which had operated in the Riverside Market building on Sixth Avenue in Dayton, learned last year that its lease would not be renewed.

Owner Sam Colleta reached out to the City of Dayton and economic development director Robert Yoder responded.

“Robert had a list of available properties in Dayton many of which weren’t listed for sale, and told us about the Commercial Community Advantage Program,” said Sam Colleta, referencing the city's economic development incentive plan that offers subsidies in a variety of ways.

“We wanted to keep Avenue Pharmacy in Dayton,” said  Yoder. “It’s vital to a small town like Dayton to have a local pharmacy to meet the needs of our residents.”

The relocated shop celebrated with city officials with a ribbon cutting at its new location, 201 Sixth Avenue, formerly home to Smitty's Bar. The building needed extensive renovations, and the city was able to assist by providing $30,000 in matching funds for the project.

"That turned a vacant tavern into this wonderful new pharmacy,” said Yoder.

“We thank Avenue Pharmacy for their commitment to serve the residents of Dayton, and for their investment in our historic downtown," Mayor Ben Baker said. "Having a pharmacy in our downtown is critical not only to the health of our residents but to the walkability of our main street."

Avenue Pharmacy will open at its new location at 201 6th Ave., Dayton, KY on Monday, March 18.
