Thomas More Advances to Championship Game
Thomas More advanced to the NCAA Division III national women's basketball tournament title game.
The undefeated Saints beat Scranton on Friday night, 69-56, in the semifinals in Salem, Va.
The game was tight in the first half. Thomas More led by nine early, 15-6, but Scranton closed that lead and knotted up the game at 19 at the end of the first quarter.
But Thomas More came out firing in the second, opening with a 9-0 run, and ultimately leading by that much at halftime, 28-19.
In the second half, Scranton fought back again and took the lead, 42-38, after a 14-1 run. The Saints clawed back to the top and led 45-42 at the end of the third quarter.
The fourth quarter was all Thomas More, with the Saints outscoring Scranton, 24-14 in the period, and sealing the win.
Madison Temple led the Saints with 20 points and 9 rebounds.
Emily Schultz put in 17 for Thomas More, while Shelby Rupp scored 11, and Kaela Saner put in 10.
Thomas More will face Bowdoin in the championship game on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
