Ryle Wins Kentucky Girls Basketball State Title
Ryle won the Kentucky Sweet 16 girls basketball state title on Sunday.
The Raiders defeated Southwestern, 63-48, at Rupp Arena in Lexington.
Brie Crittendon scored 21 points in the victory while Jaiden Douthit added 17 and Lauren Schwartz put in 14.
Ryle (32-5) controlled the game from the start, leading 17-6 after the first quarter and running up a 33-14 lead at halftime. Southwestern cut the lead down in the third quarter, and the Raiders were ahead 50-36 before the final period.
But Southwestern could get no closer, and Ryle outscored its opponent 13-12 in the final period to seal the win.
It is the first state title for Ryle, and the second in five years for the champions of the 9th Region (Holy Cross won the state title in 2015).
