HealthPoint Considers New Facility in Historic Newport City Stables

A new medical facility could soon make its way to Newport.

City Manager Tom Fromme said the city is in the process of working out a development plan and purchase agreement with HealthPoint Family Care, Inc. for the sale of 214 and 216 Forrest St. and 1029 an 1039 to 1045 Saratoga St.

The properties are currently owned by the City of Newport.

According to its website, HealthPoint Family Care is a nonprofit healthcare organization that provides adult and pediatric medical, dental, behavioral health, substance abuse treatment, obstetrics, and gynecology services.

The organization currently has facilities in Bellevue, Covington, Crittenden, Florence, and Nicholsville.

Fromme said the Newport facility would house about 45 employees.

“Once they move in, there will be a lot of work to do,” he said. “They are planning to restore the exterior the 1800s building that was once the city stables and garage. It’s going to be a really great addition, having a medical facility for residents so close and the restoration of a historical building. Also the payroll for the city will be significant. It’s a good thing for the entire city.”

Fromme said the move is pending some zoning approvals and the sale of the property.

HealthPoint CEO Chris Goddard declined to comment, but said that he expects things to be settled by April 22.

Fromme said once the sale goes through and the zoning issues are resolved, he expects HealthPoint to open late this year or early 2020.
