Longtime Ft. Mitchell Volunteer Firefighter Dies
Gerald L. Bogenschutz joined the Ft. Mitchell Fire Department in 1968.
Bogenschutz, known by friends as "Boggie", died on Friday.
He was a Volunteer Lifetime Member.
Bogenschutz joined the FMFD after a short period of time with the Winston Park Volunteer Fire Department. In 1974, he was named chief mechanic and achieved the rank of marshal. In 1978, he returned to the rank of firefighter.
Bogenshutz served in that position until 2018, after fifty years of service.
“Today we lower our flag to honor Mr. Bogenschutz’s long and dedicated service to our fire department and this community. He will be greatly missed,” said Mayor Jude Hehman.
Bogenschutz attended the Kentucky Firefighters annual conference from 1990 to 2018.
In 2006, he was inducted into the Fort Mitchell Wall of Honor.
