Anthony Munoz to Speak at Inaugural HESPY Awards at Holmes High
Holmes High School is launching its HESPY Awards, a nod to the ESPY Awards, which honors the year's best achievements in sports, as decided by cable sports network ESPN.
The Holmes event is set for May 16 in the Jack Moreland Auditorium at Holmes.
“We want to recognize the good things that all of our sports programs are doing, as well as honor our students who excel in the classroom, in sports and who give back to their community,’’ said Jon Hopkins, Holmes counselor and track coach, who is one of the organizers of the event. “Typically, we have separate banquets for each athletic team. Our goal is to bring together the school and community to create an atmosphere that spotlights all the great things that our students-athletes are doing.’’
Anthony Munoz, former Cincinnati Bengal great and Pro Football Hall of Famer, will be the keynote speaker.
The evening will be filled with fun and surprises as students and teams will receive awards from an array of categories, including the ”Heart of the Bulldog Award,” which will be presented to an individual who inspires others, the “Milestone Performance,” for an athlete with a remarkable career, and “Against All Odds,’’ for an athlete who persevered through injury or uncommon odds in their life.
In addition, athletes with a GPA of 3.5 and higher will be recognized along with the team with the highest GPA. All students were nominated by coaches.
Holmes alumni will present the awards. The event, which is free and open to the public, starts at 5:30 p.m. with the red carpet photos.
The awards ceremony follows at 6:30 p.m.
