Villa Mocha Coffee Shop Opens in Villa Hills with First Art Show
A new coffee shop is brewing in Villa Hills.
Villa Mocha opened recently at 2809 Amsterdam Road in the Amsterdam Village Plaza.
It's owned by the husband-wife team of Daniel Richardson and Alison Spears.
The shop brews fair trade and organic coffees roasted locally in Georgetown, Ky.
The bright and cheerful cafe includes a chalkboard and coloring pages to keep younger visitors busy while adults enjoy coffee.
Villa Mocha offers pastries, donuts, muffins, and scones, with bagels and other snacks coming soon.
Villa Mocha will also feature local artwork.
The first show will feature Cincinnati native Jess Hadley, whose artwork went up on May 15 for a show that will go through June 15.
An opening reception is scheduled at the coffee shop on Friday, May 24 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Hadley is a self-taught artist having painted through childhood and high school. Her process involves mixing acrylic paint with a variety of mediums causing it to react in a way that creates detailed designs. As the paint mixture moves across the canvas, Hadley purposefully directs it using tools and techniques she has developed throughout her experience as an artist.
At age 5, Hadley sparked an artistic passion that continued throughout high school. After taking a small hiatus to pursue a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Cincinnati, this artistic passion has since been reignited and taken the form of abstract expressionism and at times, non-realist work.
Hadley harnesses her personal experiences to create abstract works of art. Drawing on visual memory, each piece is representative of an emotionally poignant occurrence responsible for changing the artist’s life outlook and direction. Where color scheme reflects the artist’s visual perspective of an event, detailed yet abstract forms demonstrate contention between complex unresolved emotions and hazy flashbacks.
Villa Mocha's regular hours are Tuesday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
