Arrest Made After Boone SWAT Team Engages in Standoff for Six Hours
A man is accused of breaking into his former girlfriend's home and pouring gasoline on the residence before fleeing on foot.
A call of a domestic disturbance prompted the Boone County Sheriff's Office to search for Derek Gibson, 44, but he was not located after four hours.
A neighbor called the department again after seeing Gibson enter a home on Plum Street Lane in Erlanger.
Derek Gibson, 44, had barricaded himself inside, the Boone County Sheriff's Office said, starting at around 8:40 p.m. The SWAT Team from Boone County engaged Gibson starting at around 8:40 p.m. in a standoff that lasted about six hours.
Gibson ultimately surrendered and was arrested.
He had an active warrant for failing to appear in court on prior charges of first degree unlawful imprisonment, second degree assault, and violation of a Kentucky restraining order, all stemming from a January arrest.
