BB&T Bank to Have New Name Upon Merger
BB&T bank branches will operate under a new name upon the closure of the financial institution's merger with SunTrust.
Truist is the name announced by BB&T on Friday.
"(W)e’ve talked to many people – clients like you, our associates and teammates, and many others – about what they want from this new company. All of the valuable feedback helped lead us to the name we’re sharing with you today," the company wrote in an email to customers. "We are proud to announce our new name will be Truist."
BB&T arrived in the Northern Kentucky area when it purchased Florence-based Bank of Kentucky for $336 million in 2015. The Winston-Salem, N.C.-based BB&T is in the midst of a $28.2 billion merger with Atlanta-based SunTrust.
Truist Financial Company will be the sixth-largest bank in the nation.
American Banker reported that it the company would have 3,000 branches across the country. The new name is also expected to appear on branded sports complexes, such as SunTrust Park, home of the Atlanta Braves.
BB&T Arena in Highland Heights, home of Northern Kentucky University athletics, was previously known as Bank of Kentucky Center prior that 2015 merger.
