An Independence man is charged with trying to procure sex with a minor.
Phillip Norris, 35, was arrested on Wednesday by Kenton County Police following an investigation that began on May 14.
In a news release, police said that a Kenton County detective posing as a teen online received an unsolicited contact from Norris on a social media network. During conversations, police said, Norris talked about sex acts he desired to perform on the teenager, his desire to meet the teenager, and also acknowledged that he was aware that the teen was underage.
On Thursday, Norris showed up to meet the teen, but found police waiting for him instead.
Norris is charged with prohibited use of an electronic communications system to procure a minor/peace officer. The class D felony is punishable by up to five years in prison.
