One Killed, One Shot in Covington's City Heights

Two separate shootings in Covington's City Heights left one person dead and another injured. One man is now behind bars charged with murder.

Covington Police said that as officers were clearing a scene from a shooting that took place on Tuesday night where one man was shot and injured, a second shooting happened leaving another man dead at the scene.

Officers responded to calls of a series of shots late Tuesday night where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

He was later identified as Keevonte Thornton, 18, of Covington. He was treated and released.

Just before 2 a.m. Wednesday morning, the second shooting left a second man dead.

Le'Monte Shields, 19, of Cincinnati, was later identified as the man killed.

Police later announced the arrest of Kermanuel Rice, 37, of Cincinnati. Rice is charged with murder and alcoholic intoxication in a public place for his alleged role in the second shooting. He is being held in the Kenton County Detention Center without bond and is due to be arraigned in Kenton District Court on Thursday morning.

Police are still investigating.
