Boom on the Bridge Returns for Labor Day Fireworks

On Labor Day weekend, the annual fireworks show on the riverfront can be viewed from the Purple People Bridge in Newport at an event which will raise funds to help improve and maintain the 147-year old span.

The Newport Southbank Bridge Company announced that Boom on the Bridge returns on Sunday, September 1 from 6 to 10:30 p.m.

Tickets are $125 for adults, and $50 for children ages 3-12. Tables for 10 can be reserved at $1,200 each. (For ticket info, click here: The ticket price for adults increases to $150 after August 23. No tickets will be sold after August 30.

Tickets include beer and wine, food, and live entertainment. A free parking pass is provided for every two tickets purchased.

“There’s no better place to view the fireworks than the Purple People Bridge,” said Jack Moreland, president of the Newport Southbank BridgeCompany and Southbank Partners. “It’s a fantastic event for our community and supports our efforts to maintain the bridge for years to come.”

Newport Southbank Bridge Company is a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that operates and maintains the bridge. Moreland said that 75 percent of the cost of the ticket to the event is tax-deductible.

The bridge company needs to raise more than $1 million to paint the bridge and all proceeds from the Boom on the Bridge event will go toward the capital campaign for that purpose, he said.

Moreland said sponsorships are available for companies, organizations, or families interested in supporting the bridge and our capital campaign.

Presenting Sponsors receive a reserved table for 12 people, 24 extra drink tickets, 6 parking passes and a corporate logo will be placed first on signs on the bridge before and during the event. The cost of a presenting sponsorship is $5,000.

Supporting sponsors will get a table for 10 people, 12 extra drink tickets, and their logo placed on all event signs on the bridge before and during the event. The cost of a supporting sponsorship is $2,500.

Table sponsors get a reserved table for 10 people, five parking passes and their names placed on the reserved table. The cost of a table sponsorship is $1,200.

Because the central portion of the bridge will be used during the fireworks display, the main section of the bridge will close at 8 a.m. on Sept. 1. The bridge’s Pagan’s Path will close to the public at 2 p.m.
