Coleman, Baines Appointed to Gateway Board of Directors

Governor Matt Bevin appointed John Baines and Charlie Coleman to the Gateway Community & Technical College board of directors.

They were sworn in last week along with the new student representative on the board, Savannah Buck.

"I'm excited about working with our new board members,” said Dr. Fernando Figueroa, Gateway Community & Technical College president. “Our college is poised to do great things as we partner with the community. Mr. Baines, Mr. Coleman and Ms. Buck will be tremendous assets in this endeavor.”

Baines is a consultant and executive coach at Insight Partners, LLC. He previously served as the president for Hahn Automation from 2004 until 2018.

“I’ve been involved with Gateway on the business side and work as a partner and helping them find solutions,” said Baines. “I’m really excited to join the board to help bring the voice of business to the table and find better ways to strengthen those relationships.”

Buck is a human services student at Gateway. She graduated from Simon Kenton High School in 2014. She serves as a peer mentor who assists other students in different capacities

“As a student and a Gateway peer mentor, I get a lot of referrals about nonacademic barriers,” said Buck. “My goal is to bring those more to the attention of the board so that students can be more successful.”

Coleman is a former Campbell County Commissioner, serving one term after being elected in 2014. Coleman was a teacher, assistant principal, athletic director and head football coach at Bellevue High School, where he spent the majority of his tenure.

“We need a qualified workforce in Northern Kentucky. Gateway is the answer to that,” said Coleman. “We don’t want to be the best kept secret I want to help get the word out about Gateway to the region.”

The next meeting of the Gateway Board of Directors is Oct. 24.
