Bellevue Couple Wins $50,000 on Lottery Scratch-Off
A Bellevue couple claimed a $50,000 prize from the Kentucky Lottery after playing a $5 Holiday Cheer scratch-off.
Daniel and Stephanie Scott were hanging out with friends at Loyal Cafe on Foote Avenue in Bellevue when they scratched off the winning ticket.
Stephanie did the scratching, according to an announcement from the state lottery, and discovered a "package" symbol, which indicates a double prize. She then scratched a $5,000 prize opportunity, which means that would be doubled to $10,000.
Stephanie leaned over to her husband and said, “Please come outside,” she said.
“At first I thought something was wrong, that she had gotten a text or something,” Daniel said.
Once they got outside, she started scratching off more of the ticket, seeing more of the packages, until they realized she won the game’s $50,000 top prize.
“I told Daniel, ‘Let’s get out of here',” she said. “I was freaking out a bit and wanted to get home and put the ticket somewhere safe.”
The couple walked out of lottery headquarters in Louisville with a check for $35,500, after taxes. They plan to use the winnings to take a trip and fix up some things around the house.
Loyal Cafe will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
