Thomas More Football Loses Another Close One
Thomas More football lost its third straight game on Saturday, falling to Bethel in McKenzie, Tennessee, 35-28.
The Saints are now 3-6 on the season and 1-4 in the Mid-South Conference.
Thomas More jumped out to a lead, 7-0, with under two minutes to play in the first quarter with senior quarterback Justin Post connected on a four-yard pass to senior wide receiver Da'marco Canty. Senior kicker Alex Barnhart added the extra point.
But Bethel tied the game as the first quarter ended.
Bethel took its first lead at 14-7 following a 36-yard touchdown pass, but the Saints tied it up soon after when Post connected with junior running back Justin Durham, a Lloyd High School graduate, for a 22-yard touchdown.
The teams went to the half tied at 14.
In the second half, Bethel quickly doubled up Thomas More, scoring two touchdowns in swift succession to lead 28-14.
With 2:33 left to play in the third quarter, the Wildcats padded their lead with a third touchdown, 35-14.
Thomas More was able to cut the lead in the fourth quarter, when Post and Canty connected again on a 16-yard touchdown pass. The Bethel lead was 35-21 with 13:27 to play.
Canty scored another touchdown on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Post, putting the Saints back within striking distance, 35-28 with 10:09 to play.
But neither team would score again.
Thomas More returns home to BB&T Field in Crestview Hills next Saturday to host #8-ranked University of the Cumberlands at 1:30 p.m.
