Wreaths to Be Laid at Veterans' Graves in Southgate's Evergreen Cemetery

Wreaths are to be laid at the grave sites of veterans buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Southgate as part of the annual Wreaths Across America event.

The Campbell County Democrats and the John R. Little VFW in Southgate are teaming up for the local event, which will take place on December 14.

Described as a nonpartisan, non-political tribute, volunteers will place wreaths at the graves of 448 veterans in the Civil War battery and Soldiers' Lot, including that of William Horsfall, of Newport, who was the nation's youngest Medal of Honor winner.

Veterans buried at Evergreen fought in the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World Wars I and II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.

The organizers are looking for volunteers to help with wreath placement, particularly scouting and other youth organizations. Contributions for the wreaths are also accepted. Each one costs $15.
