Homeless Man Arrested for Covington, Florence Shop Robberies
A man accused of robbing a smoke shop in Covington and a vape shop in Florence is now behind bars after Covington Police located him living in a tent near the Ohio River.
Shawn Warfield, 32, is charged with two counts of first degree robbery in Covington, one count of first degree robbery in Boone County, second degree assault, menacing, resisting arrest, and first degree possession of a controlled substance (heroin).
According to police, Warfield robbed the Smilin' Smoker on Philadelphia Street in Covington just before midnight on November 9. He left with money and merchandise, police said.
A week later, on November 16, just before 5 p.m., Warfield is accused of robbing Kimmy's Korner on Main Street in Covington, demanding all the money in the register. The clerk refused and was allegedly assaulted by Warfield.
Warfield left with a small amount of money and merchandise, police said.
The next day, on November 17, Warfield robbed Galaxy Vapors on Burlington Pike in Florence, police said, where he escaped again with a small amount of money and merchandise.
The Boone County Sheriff's Office was able to identify the suspect as Warfield and Covington Police determined that he was living in a tent near the floodwall along the Ohio River in Covington.
Officers located Warfield there and though he attempted to flee, he was ultimately arrested.
Warfield was lodged in the Kenton County Detention Center where he is being held on $25,000 bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Kenton District Court on Tuesday, November 26 at 1:30 p.m.
