Northern Kentucky Routs Miami, 76-54
Northern Kentucky bounced back from Saturday's loss at Arkansas with a big win at Miami in Oxford, Ohio on Tuesday night.
The Norse pulled away and won, 76-54.
Dantez Walton led the Norse with 32 points as NKU improved to 6-3 on the year.
Tyler Sharpe added 18 points for NKU and Adrian Nelson scored six and pulled in a career-high 12 rebounds in the victory.
Northern Kentucky trailed early in the game, with Miami (4-4) opening up an 8-2 lead but back-to-back threes by Walton and Adham Eleeda tied up the game.
The Norse piled on from deep with Sharpe and Trevon Faulkner nailing threes. A Walton layup put the Norse up 16-10 with 9:44 to play.
NKU led at halftime, 29-22.
In the second half, Miami battled back, cutting the lead to 33-31, but Walton had another answer with three straight baskets, pushing the Norse to a 40-33 advatnage.
The Norse went on a big run of 21 to 4 to lead 54-35 before ultimately winning by 22.
Overall, NKU shot 50 percent from the field, its highest against an NCAA Division I team this season.
Walton is averaging 23.1 points and 7.5 rebounds in the last six games for NKU.
The Norse are back home on Sunday for a 7 p.m. tip-off against Eastern Kentucky.
