Thomas More to Retire Sydney Moss's Jersey
Thomas More University will retire the jersey of Sydney Moss, who starred in the women's basketball program before graduating in 2016.
Moss's #20 jersey will be retired in a special ceremony on Tuesday, December 17 when the Saints play the University of the Virgin Islands in Crestview Hills.
Moss came to Thomas More after spending her first year at the University of Florida. For the Saints, Moss was a three-time All-American and National Player of the Year selection.
Thomas More won two NCAA Division III national titles with Moss on the court. One of those titles, won in 2015, was later vacated by the NCAA, which determined that Moss had received improper living accommodations. She had hurt her knee and was unable, the university said at the time, to access her own apartment.
Instead, Moss was offered the opportunity to live with a part-time assistant coach.
Thomas More rebounded from the sanction and won another title in 2016. The university won its third title in 2019, its final year as an NCAA Division III program before moving to NAIA competition.
Moss scored 1,511 career points at TMU and set the division III single-game scoring record on February 28, 2014 when she racked up 63 points against Waynesburg in a conference tournament semifinal game.
Moss tied the NCAA Division III single-season scoring record during the 2013-14 season as she scored 891 points.
The jersey retirement ceremony is scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m. on December 17. Thomas More and the Virgin Islands will then tip-off at 6 p.m.
