Newport Catholic Announces Hall of Fame, Freshmen Scholarships

Newport Central Catholic announced the 20th class of inductees into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame.

Chosen for induction this year are Grant Brannen (1998), Kaela Freppon (2009), Zack Kiernan (2007), Shannon Klei (2007), Mark Krebs, Jr. (2005), Mike Lalley (1977), Rocky Pangallo (1980), and Rob Sandfoss (1994).

The 2008 All-A state champion volleyball squad will be recognized as a team of distinction.

The Coach Jim Connor Award will be presented to Vicki Flessiner, while the Father John Hegenauer Community Service Award will be presented to Ed Noe and Jack Snodgrass.

The ceremony is set for Saturday, February 15 at the school's gymnasium. It starts with a social hour at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 and should be purchased prior to February 7. Contact the NCC school office at 859.292.0001 for details.

All proceeds from the event directly support the athletic programs at Newport Central Catholic.

Incoming freshmen awarded scholarships

New Cath also announced the following eighth graders as recipients of scholarships for their scores on the High School Placement Test:   

Emma Beck - St. Catherine - Scholarship of $1000 a year for 4 years

Christian Woods - Highlands/St. Thomas - Scholarship of $750 a year for 4 years

Kolton Smith - St. Thomas - Scholarship of $750 for 2 years

Tyler Kevill - St. Joseph - Scholarship of $750 for 2 years

Mason McCloskey - St. Therese - Scholarship of $750 for 2 years

Gweneth Kramer - St. Catherine - Scholarship of $750 for 2 years

Griffin Hatfield - St. Joseph - Scholarship of $500 for 2 years

Lucas Tinkler - St. Catherine - Scholarship of $500 for 2 years

Nathan Kirst - St. Catherine - Scholarship of $500 for 2 years

Jacob Luhn - St. Joseph - Scholarship of $500 for 2 years
