NKU's Walton on Mid-Major Award List
Northern Kentucky University basketball player Dantez Walton was named as part of the 2019-20 Lou Henson Mid-Season Watch List.
The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the nation’s best mid-major player. It is named after former Illinois and New Mexico State head coach Lou Henson, who amassed 775 career victories.
Walton, who had shown steady growth throughout his four-year career as a Norse, elevated his game to another level this season. Prior to being sidelined with an injury, Walton was averaging 18.4 points behind 54 percent field-goal shooting and 42 percent from 3-point range. He also led NKU in rebounding at 7.2 per game.
The Lima, Ohio, native became the first Northern Kentucky player in 19 years to record three 30-point outings in a single season. He kicked off the barrage with a career-high 33 points and 10 rebounds against Texas Southern, then followed with 30 points and 10 rebounds against Arkansas. His final performance was a 32-point, eight rebound effort at Miami (Ohio).
NKU has won three straight games to improve to 12-6 on the season and 4-2 in the Horizon League this season.
