NKU Men Picked Third, Women Fourth in Horizon League Poll
Northern Kentucky men's basketball was picked third in the pre-season Horizon League poll while the women's team was picked fourth.
The poll was conducted by coaches, members of the media, and athletics communication representatives.
The men's team finished second in the 2020 regular season and won the tournament title, its third such championship in the past four years.
Wright State and Youngstown State were picked first and second in the men's poll.
New Horizon League member Robert Morris was selected as fourth, with Illinois-Chicago, Oakland, Cleveland State, Green Bay, Detroit Mercy, and Milwaukee rounding out the conference rankings, with another newcomer, Purdue-Fort Wayne picked eleventh, and IUPUI picked twelfth.
The women's team is looking to build on last year's 20-win season, which included a 12-6 record in league play and a semifinal appearance in the conference tournament.
Junior point guard Ally Niece earned a spot on the All-Horizon League Preseason First Team.
"As a team, we do not put a lot of stock into preseason rankings,” said Camryn Whitaker, head coach. “We play in a very competitive women's basketball league with so many great teams. The fourth-place ranking is a testament to the work our players and coaching staff have put in and we will continue to focus on the process of becoming better each day."
