Golden Gelato Opens in Downtown Covington
Downtown Covington has a new gelato shop courtesy of Joe and Vanessa Jones.
The Covington couple said that they stared into the uncertainty of life during the COVID-19 pandemic and wanted to serve their favorite dessert, to offer a little sweetness in a bitter world.
Golden Gelato is now open at 130 West Pike Street, adjacent to Duveneck Square.
The gelato is made in-house there and served in small batches with unique flavor combinations.
“There are no premade pastes or artificial flavoring or anything,” said Vanessa Jones, “only natural ingredients sourced locally when we can."
With the focus on small-batch delivery, there will always be something new on the menu, she said.
The gelatos and sorbettos, which is milk-free and 100% vegan, are complemented by robust espresso made with beans from Deeper Roots Coffee.
The Joneses said that gelato is best enjoyed on what the Italians call a passeggiata, or a leisurely stroll through the neighborhood. It was Joe Jones's first hiking trip to Italy where he was inspired by the passion Italians share for their gelato.
“This is a vibrant neighborhood and a perfect backdrop,” he said. “We are proud to be doing business in the city we live in.”
Golden Gelato is now open Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m; Friday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Due to the pandemic, face masks are required for entry, and there is currently no indoor seating, though curbside pick-up and delivery are available.
