Florence Man Faces Manslaughter Charge After Deadly Assault
A Florence man is charged in the death of another Florence man.
The Boone County Sheriff's Office reported that on Friday morning, at around 8:30, deputies were dispatched to the 10000 block of Bruce Drive after a man was found dead in a front yard.
An investigation, the sheriff's office said, revealed that the victim had been assaulted prior to his death.
David W. Gregory, 43, died of blunt force trauma to his head, investigators determined. They accused Phillip F. Alden, 23, of the crime.
According to the sheriff's office, Alden admitted to detectives that he drove his knee into Gregory's head and punched him the face. He then carried Gregory out of a Greenlawn Avenue home where the assault took place, and drove him to Alden's own home, leaving Gregory unresponsive in the front yard.
Alden is charged with one count of first degree manslaughter. He is being held at the Boone County Detention Center on $250,000 cash bond.
