Water Main Break Closes Part of Beechwood Road
This story has been updated to include comments from Mayor Jude Hehman, offered at Monday night's city council meeting.
A water main break in Fort Mitchell on Monday has closed a section of Beechwood Road and shut off water for nearby residents and businesses.
Mayor Jude Hehman said at Monday night's city council meeting that a mobile home park and apartment community are among the residential areas without water.
Fire Chief Adam Fuller said that his department is working with the Northern Kentucky Water District in establishing a game plan moving forward. He said that the damaged water main appears to be under a sewer pipe making it a complicated fix.
Hehman said a full repair could take several days, though the water district is hoping to offer a temporary fix on Monday so that residents can have access to water. But even then, there would continue to be shut-offs, he said, as work continues.
Fuller said that a water boil advisory had been issued.
"Just to be clear, this is a pretty big deal," Hehman said.
The city reported that Beechwood is closed between Royal and Grandview drives until further notice.
The Northern Kentucky Water District is working on the issue and can be contacted at 859-578-9898 or www.nkywater.org for more information.
