CANCELED: Kid-Friendly New Year's Eve Party at Purple People Bridge
UPDATE: On Wednesday, Dec. 27, organizers announced that they have canceled the planned New Year's Eve event on the Purple People Bridge due to the low temperatures expected.
Kids will be able to ring in the New Year in style - on Newport's Purple People Bridge.
The Newport Southbank Bridge Company and Coldiron Enterprises announced that they will host a kid-friendly New Year's Eve party - on Saturday, Dec. 30, the night before the big kids hit the town.
Admission is $5 (children under 2 are free) and the event runs from 6 to 9 p.m.
With admission, children will receive party favors and a ticket for a free hot chocolate. Other food and beverages will be available for purchase on the bridge. Kid-friendly activities and attractions, such as games, face painting, cookie decorating, a petting zoo, and more will be found on the bridge.
The New Year’s countdown will start shortly before 9 p.m., with a ten-minute fireworks display at the end of the countdown. The Purple People Bridge will have its purple-and-white Christmas lights turned on and music will be playing during the event.
“ColdIron Enterprises is excited to partner with the Newport Southbank Bridge Company to bring this new and innovative holiday event to tri-state residents,” said Marc Wertheim, president and CEO of ColdIron Enterprises. “We believe that our region needed a fun, kid-focused event during the holidays, so we are launching a kids’ New Year’s Eve Eve event on the Purple People Bridge the day before the traditional New Year’s Eve.”
