Newport Florist Closing After 65 Years
A longtime Newport florist is shuttering for good.
Kreutzer & Dorl Florist announced Thursday that it would cease operations after 65 years in business.
Established in 1953 by Fort Thomas residents Vera and Frank Kreutzer, the shop saw the heyday of Newport's "Sin City" days. Frank Kreutzer, Jr., their son, remembers sitting on the laps of notorious gangsters who gave him candy and quarters, a news release said.
The family credits the business's commitment to innovative design and reasonable prices for its longevity.
But, neither of the Kreutzers' two daughters was interested in taking over the family business. Its regular business hours will end on Friday.
There will be a few chances to get some deals, the owners said. On Saturday, February 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, February 25 from noon to 3, and then Monday, February 26 through Friday, March 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the store will be open with everything 50 percent off.
Starting on March 3, whatever is left will be 70 percent off.
