Axe-Throwing Business to Open in Covington

Got an axe to grind?
How about one to throw?
Flying Axes will open in Covington in June, marking the second location for the Louisville-based enterprise.
“Since the beginning, Flying Axes has been a partnership between Louisville and Greater Cincinnati investors,” said Dave Knox, local investor. “Axe throwing is a blast, and we’re going to have one of the best axe throwing venues in the country right here our city.”
Flying Axes is the birthplace of the American Axe Throwing League, and now brings its recreational sport to Northern Kentucky.
Construction is underway at 100 West Sixth Street - an old Covington firehouse and former location of Tickets sports bar - and axes are expected to start flying in mid-June.
The operation is the latest new venue to open in downtown Covington in a part of town seeing several new restaurants and retail businesses. Flying Axes is a welcome addition to the neighborhood, noted Braxton Brewing Company co-founder and CEO Jake Rouse.
"We couldn't be more thrilled to have Flying Axes join the redevelopment of Covington's downtown," said Rouse. "Few things are as fun as throwing axes and enjoying a fresh Braxton beer, and we welcome the unique activity to our growing neighborhood."
How it works: two players compete against each other, throwing five axes per round at a target, scoring various points. The high score wins the round and games are played on a best-of-3 format.
Flying Axes expects to cater to casual groups and corporate events.
“At Flying Axes, no one’s ever bored,” said Mike Brown, COO of Flying Axes. “Just the opposite — everyone is engaged, people scream and cheer for each other — it’s awesome. It’s also why axe throwing is perfect for team building.”
