Latonia Water Park CLOSED as Hot Weekend Arrives

UPDATE: The water park re-opened on Saturday.

The forecast indicates that the upcoming weekend could be the hottest one so far this year.

That could spell bad news for anyone looking to cool off at the Latonia Water Park/Splash Pad. The popular seasonal attraction is closed until further notice while the City of Covington works to repair electrical issues.
The problem was discovered when employees showed up to open the park Friday and found that the pump was not working.
"This is terrible timing - believe me, we know," said Ken Smith, the City of Covington's neighborhood services director. "Residents should understand that we are doing everything we can to get the complex back open as soon as possible."
Smith said the city has authorized overtime and outside help to get the filtration system fixed.
"The hard reality is that the park is 16 years old and equipment like this - as any homeowner with a pool knows - is temperamental and wears out quickly," he said.
The water park is part of the Bill Cappel Youth Sports Complex at 43rd and Church streets in Latonia.
Normal hours are noon to 6 p.m., seven days a week. On weekends, 300 to 400 people come to the facility, which includes water slides, hoses, sprinklers and play equipment, the city said in a news release.
The City of Covington will update residents on the status of the water park at the city Facebook page, the parks & recreation department's Facebook page, and the city website.
