Alleged Drug-Induced Crash is Latest in String of Violence, Crimes on West 9th Street
A man was arrested late Tuesday night after a car crash in Mainstrasse Village.
The scene of police and fire vehicles has become commonplace on this stretch of West Ninth Street where other car accidents and a shooting happened recently.
Covington Police responded to West Ninth at just past 11 p.m. on Tuesday when a vehicle headed west on the street hit another vehicle headed east, head on. Jacob Frost, 19, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital by Covington EMS for treatment of injuries. According to a police report, Frost was found to be under the influence of narcotics and alcohol and was placed under arrest.
Frost appeared in Kenton County District Court for arraignment on Wednesday morning and has since been released from jail on $500 bond. He is charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
On the same block just over two weeks ago, a pickup truck went into reverse and destroyed the porch of a neighboring house. 57-year old Mark Powers was later arrested and charged with first degree wanton endangerment, first degree heroin possession, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs.
Two days later, a man was shot but fled the scene before he could be treated by emergency responders.
This primarily residential street has been a target in recent years by Covington Police due to the increase in perceived drug use, prostitution, and related criminal activity.
