NKY: Are You Ready for this Significant Highway Project & Its Traffic Delays?
Work on the Interstate is expected to cause some serious traffic issues this weekend.
The interstate rehabilitation project is in progress on I-71/75 from the I-275 interchange to just south of Dixie Highway (exit 188).
Starting Friday at 10 p.m., there will be significant lane restrictions on northbound I-71/75 between Donaldson Road (KY 236) and Dixie Highway (U.S. 25). The weekend work will involve shifting lanes and opening the contraflow lane on the southbound side. There will be significant impacts to northbound travel time and motorists should consider alternate routes during the work.
Drivers should also watch for traffic control devices, flaggers, construction personnel, and equipment entering and leaving the work zone.
The northbound direction is expected to reopen with two lanes and the contraflow lane by 5 a.m. Monday, July 18. The entrance ramp from Donaldson will close on Friday at 10 p.m. and will not open again until October 15.
Access to I-275 from Donaldson will remain open. The I-275 eastbound ramp to I-71/75 is restricted to a singe lane. Delays can be expected.
Speed limit in the work zone will be 45 MPH northbound. The entire project is expected to be completed by November.
